Srinagar, Feb 04 (KNO): The Union Ministry of Minority Affairs on Wednesday informed the Lok Sabha that the UMEED Central Portal–2025, launched for digital registration and management of Waqf properties, witnessed intermittent technical issues during its initial phase, but no State or Union Territory, including Jammu and Kashmir, was disproportionately affected due to any systemic malfunction. Replying to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha, the Ministry said the UMEED portal was launched on June 6, 2025 to facilitate uploading of existing Waqf properties, registration of new Waqfs and to improve governance in accordance with the Waqf Act. The Ministry said that some users, including those from Jammu and Kashmir, reported issues such as login delays, deferred OTPs, non-submission of mandatory fields and data validation problems, particularly during periods of high usage. However, these were described as transitional and operational issues linked to digitisation of legacy records, internet connectivity and availability of statutory documents with State Waqf Boards. According to official data as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), 25,293 Waqf property records from Jammu and Kashmir were uploaded on the UMEED portal between June and December 2025, with the highest number of uploads recorded in November (17,490) followed by December (6,025). The government said all technical issues and grievances were addressed through an in-built helpdesk and grievance redressal mechanism, while regular video conferences and zonal review meetings were also held to resolve stakeholders’ concerns in real time. The Ministry said that a state-wise and month-wise monitoring mechanism has been integrated into the portal to track uploaded, approved, pending or reverted Waqf properties, enabling early identification of bottlenecks and targeted technical support. It added that State Waqf Boards, including Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, have been advised to re-verify property area details with land records after instances of erroneous entries were noticed during scrutiny of uploaded data—(KNO)
